Literacy Rotation

Today for our Literacy rotations we were working in three groups. The first third of students in our class had a look at some ‘Collections’ books, which are books pretty much like School Journals, except more our age level. The students had to read three recounts in a ‘Collections’ book, then work out the differences between them. They then had to give feedback using the Recount Criteria that we made a couple weeks ago.

The second third were working on a recount based on a short story called ‘The Hitchhiker by Roald Dahl, It is a magnificent story about an incredible ‘fingersmith’ he once met, and gave a lift. I shall not tell you any more though, as I would hate to give away the end. Anyway, the students had to write their own version of The Hitch Hiker; same title, different story(Recount/moments in time). They then had to review each other’s stories, discuss them, and give feedback.

The final third were working on their goals. It’s a lot harder than it sounds, because Mr Eames will not settle for one sentence, you need 2 metres worth of writing for each goal! (Ok , maybe I’m exaggerating a bit.) The students had to work out a few good goals backed up with reasons and evidence for why they chose them. Then they were free to blog!                                 (Florence)
