Who supported you, encouraged you and enabled you to get there? What factors help us to feel good about ourselves.
What are the negatives- what brings us down, inhibits us from achieving?
We had some wonderful discussions today covering a range of concepts.
Self esteem
Confidence
Minorities.
Individual qualities
Backgrounds
Insults
Put downs
We used a metaphor of a glass. - We filled the glass with the things that make us feel good.
What empties the glass? What fills the glass? What happens when the glass becomes close to empty?
We will continue to have these discussions as well as revisit a number of the above
How one little word can drain someones cup completely. People should be proud about their minorities. For some people its a struggle to fill their cup completely because of something that has happened in the past. You should respect everyone qualities and backgrounds
ReplyDeleteWell done William. You played an important part in the discussions yesterday.
DeleteThe most important message for me is don't let anybody put you down, and don't put anybody down until you've walked a mile in their shoes, because they could be going through a lot more than what's showing.
ReplyDeleteExcellent comment. I am pleased you got this from yesterday's discussions.
DeleteI agree with William. I learned that you don't need fame or money to be happy. Everyone is fair and you don't know their background so be sensitive to people and what you say. Just one word can empty their cup. We also learned what makes us happy and what let's us down. No one's higher or lower so respect all.
ReplyDeleteIf people say lots of good things about you and then someone says something bad about you forget the good words and just remember the bad word and feel bad.
ReplyDeleteI agree with William because just one insult or bad word can metaphorically drain your glass, even if you have had lots of compliments that day. Just because you might have a full glass it still makes you equally as vulnerable as anyone to a bad word.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what everyone has said and that it is important to know your minorities but what I think is even more important than knowing them is being proud of them and knowing that there are going to be a whole lot of people out there who have the same kind of minorities so even if you feel alone you never are in this big world we live in.
ReplyDeleteI agree with William, Izzy, and Katie that you should be proud of who you are and don't let anyone put you down in any way. And to never put other people down in any way. If you have one thing that you are really sensitive to just know that other people do to and not to put them down for it.
ReplyDeleteNever forget who you are
The rest of the world will not.
Wear it like armor
And it can never be used to hurt you. - Tyrion Lanister (Game of Thrones)
I learned that many peoples even if their famous can have their glass slightly empty just by doing things that don't make them happy but do things to try and look better and more like their friends or people they look up to. Another thing I learnt is that if you say something that you don't mean to hurt someone they might take it a different way because of something that has happened to them.
