Maths - Problem Solving.

Today we were learning how to identify patterns in order to solve problems. In the real world of mathematics there are a lot of open problems, so we decided to give one a go.

Game:
Place 21 M & Ms in a row. With a partner take turns, removing one, two or three M & Ms each turn. The person to remove the last counter is the winner.

Students had to decide if this was a fair game and what the winning strategy would be for the player that took the first turn.

It turns out it isn't a fair game. For the winning strategies you will have to ask them!

Excellent discussions & problem solving.
